Excellence in Teaching Award

PURPOSE

The Excellence in Teaching (EIT) Award aims to recognise academic staff who have consistently displayed the characteristics of good teaching in their classes. These characteristics include the following:

AWARD PRIZE

NOMINATION CRITERIA

  1. Nominees must have taught in SP for at least ONE year.
  2. Nominees should be teaching Full-Time Diploma, Part-Time Diploma, Specialist Diploma or Advanced Diploma courses.
  3. Nominees must not be on study leave during the nomination/selection/award period.
  4. Nominees must have student feedback scores of 4.0 or above for the past two feedback exercises.
  5. For nominees who have been awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award before, the second nomination will only be considered after THREE years from the year of the previous award received.

Outstanding Personal Tutor Award

PURPOSE

The Outstanding Personal Tutor Award (OPTA) recognizes Personal Tutors (including PTN Coordinators) who have consistently displayed characteristics of being a good PT. These include the following traits:

Besides the above, the following will be the broad criterion in the nomination and selection of Outstanding PT:

  1. Nominees must have taught in SP for at least ONE year.
  2. Nominees should be teaching PTs teaching Full-Time Diploma courses.
  3. Nominees must not be on study leave during the nomination/selection/award period.

NOMINATION PROCEDURE

Nomination must be proposed by one student and seconded by five other students.
Nomination is opened to all full-time students from 17 January to 8 May 2017.

Research & Development

PURPOSE

The Research & Development (R&D) Award seeks to recognise SP staff for their achievements and contributions to applied R&D in the development of innovative processes and products with potential for industry application and commercialisation. It also aims to motivate researchers towards excellence in their R&D endeavours at SP.

Journal of Teaching Practice

PURPOSE

The Journal of Teaching Practice (JTP) Award is part of Singapore Polytechnic’s continuing efforts to promote excellence in education and training. The award recognises academic staff who reflect critically on their professional practice, conduct research on significant pedagogical issues, and seek to be creative in their teaching strategies.

The award is given annually to staff who enhance understanding of teaching and learning in the Polytechnic by documenting and sharing their research through a clearly written paper. The paper should, but need not, address the conference theme. Selection for the Award will be based on innovativeness of the topic or findings, impact on teaching and learning, ease of implementation and scalability.

AWARD PRIZE

SGD $500, Certificate & Plaque

SUBMISSION & JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. Each paper should not exceed 5000 words in length, including Title, Abstract, Main Text, Tables and References. Supporting Appendices may be attached, and will not be included in the word count.
  2. The paper must represent current and original work by the lecturer(s) and has not been submitted to any other conferences or journals.
  3. The paper must show evidence of appropriate literature review, sound methodology, analysis and conclusions grounded in the data collected, and potential application and usefulness for fellow academic faculty in the Polytechnic.
  4. The paper must be written in a clear, concise and well-structured format.
  5. Any paper written in collaboration with a staff of EDU will not be eligible for the plaque and $500.00 cash award.
  6. The award consists of a single certificate and a cash sum of $500.00, regardless of the number of contributors to the paper.
  7. The papers that best meet the selection criteria will be accepted, irrespective of the number of entries across the various schools/departments

  2. Click "My Modules" located at the top navigation bar
  3. Click "EETC_JTP" under "Courses in which you are enrolled"
  4. Click "Submit Paper" located at the navigation column on the left
  5. Click "JTP Paper Submission" in the main panel
  6. Click "Browse My Computer" under "Assignment Materials" and attach your Paper
  7. Click "Submit"

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & SUPPORT

An online tutorial on Conducting Educational Research is available at eLearning@sp Prof Devt Journal of Teaching Practice.

A 6 hour blended learning workshop (3hrs online; 3hrs face-to-face) on Writing Journal Papers will be offered by Dennis Sale, Senior Education Advisor, on 6 Apr 2017. This will enable authors to share and receive feedback on their work done so far. Registration for the workshop can be found at EASys.

You will receive an email confirming receipt of your submission within one week.

Authors can submit an Abstract/Synopsis of their paper (not more than one side of A4) for review and feedback before the submitting their papers. NOTE: This is an optional support function, and each abstract/synopsis submission will be reviewed only once.

ICT-enabled Learning Award

PURPOSE

The ICT-enabled Learning Award (ICTLA) seeks to recognise Academic and Administrative staff for the effective use of education technology for ICT-enabled Learning in SP to better engage learners in attaining desired learning outcomes. We would like staff to demonstrate good design of learning experiences aided by the creative and innovative use of EduTech to enhance the learning process.

AWARD PRIZE

SGD $500, Certificate & Plaque

SUBMISSION & JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. To participate in this competition:
    1. Produce a video presentation (no longer than 10 minutes) that outlines and describes the ICT-enabled learning experience that you have designed and implemented. See note below on the requirements of the video submission.
    2. Upload the video to YouTube as an Unlisted video and submit the URL together with the details requested in the online form provided below.
    3. Submissions can be done as a team or individually.
    4. By submitting the online form, staff consents to present their work at EETC and have their work shared on EduTech Exchange.
  2. The ICT-enabled learning experience will be judged on these areas (click here for the Judging Criteria):
    1. Design of the learning experience
    2. Creative and innovative use of EduTech
    3. Impact on attaining Learning Outcomes
  3. Teams/individuals whose submissions have been shortlisted will be requested to meet the judging panel for a Q&A session on 6 Jun 2017.
  4. EDU staff are not eligible for this award. However, collaborative projects with EDU staff as advisors will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  5. The submission must represent original work by staff and have been implemented in class.
  6. Previous winning projects cannot be re-submitted again.

Note: Requirements of Video Submission
In the video submission, you will need to walkthrough the ICT-enabled learning experience that you have implemented. You will need to elaborate on the design of the learning experience, how you have maximised the affordances of selected EduTech tool(s), and how your learners felt about the entire learning experience. Consider the following guiding questions: What are the learning outcomes? What is the instructional challenge that you were faced with? How has EduTech improved the learning process? What tools have you used and why have you used them? How was it like going through the ICT-enabled learning experience with your learners?

Best Managed Laboratory Award

PURPOSE

This Best Managed Laboratory (BML) Award recognises the important role of good management and operations of the laboratory (including Workshops). It is presented to lab support staff that create and maintain a conducive and safe working environment for users, given the particular purpose of the lab, the nature of the work done in it, and the extensiveness of utilization of facilities and equipment.
